Jail Plan Opponents Mount Petition Drive

Washtenaw County, MI – Washtenaw County's plan to sell bonds to pay for jail expansions is being challenged by some county residents, who say the plan would increase costs to communities which pay for police patrols.

Eagles Look to Spring Upset in Opener

Ypsilanti – Eastern Michigan brings eight new defensive starters, a pair of new offensive tackles and a true freshman tailback into Thursday night's opener at Cincinnati. Can the Eagles really be more experienced than the Bearcats?

Cincinnati lost 16 starters from last year's 7-5 team, but, like most major-conference schools, they were able to fill nearly all of those holes with experienced upperclassmen.

Eagles Face Unknown in Opener: Themselves

Ypsilanti – Eastern Michigan opens its football season Thursday night against a Cincinnati team that returns just eight starters. But the biggest unknown for head coach Jeff Genyk is actually his own defense.

"With eight new (defensive) starters, we're thinking a lot more about us than them," Genyk said Monday at his weekly media conference. "We're probably going to have more mental errors than we've ever had. But we have to play fast. We are significantly faster and more athletic (on defense) than we were last year."
