AAATA Gets Award For Sustainability Work

Facebook/TheRide

The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority has received gold medal recognition for its sustainability efforts.

The recognition comes from the American Public Transportation Association.  During the last five years, The Ride has reduced water usage by 43% at its main facility by reusing water to wash their buses.  Intergrated marketing coordinator Don Kline says out of 92 of their buses, 55 are hybrid.

"Well, it is the largest known proportion of hybrid, electric bus fleet in the nation. We're also always exploring alternative fuels in order to maintain both a high level of sustainability and cost effectiveness."

Since 2011, The Ride also reduced electricity usage at its main facility by 18%.
