American Heart Association's Heart Walk On EMU Campus This Saturday

Eastern Michigan University and the American Heart Association are joining forces tomorrow to battle heart disease. The two organizations are holding a "Heart Walk" at EMU's Rynearson Stadium Saturday.

The event is an effort to reach a fundraising goal of $100,000, is a year-long campaign designed to improve the health of those who pledge to live healthier lifestyles.  EMU's Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics,  and chair of the event, Heather Lyke says it gives people a chance to have a local impact in the fight against heart disease as she stresses the importance to get involved in the fight against heart disease - the leading cause of death in America,  even outpacing cancer.

Thousands of people are expected to join the walk tomorrow at EMU’s annual event. Lyke says the money they raise will help fund research and education projects in Washtenaw County. This year's event will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at Rynearson Stadium.

There is no fee to participate in the walk. The Registration for the 5K Heart Hero Run is $35.
