The city of Ann Arbor could raise the age of when its residents can buy tobacco products.

Council member Julie Grand from the 3rd ward is expected to propose an ordinance change that would require someone to be 21 years old to purchase the products.

It's part of a national campaign that hopes to get less people to smoke and become healthier, especially among pregnant women.   Council says they're looking into the legality of the issue.

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System is also helping with the project.
