A new partnership between the Ann Arbor District Library and a local music label is making over 250 albums available to library patrons.
Ghostly International and Spectral Soundnow join the Magnatune label as music you can download from the Ann Arbor library for free.
Ghostly describes itself as:
a multi-platform cultural curator, a tightly knit aesthetic universe fulfilling the roles of art gallery, design house, clothing designer, technology innovator, music-publishing company—and, yes, record label—in one. In the years since its birth in 1999, Ghostly has grown from a boutique label known for its experimental-pop and -techno acumen to an internationally recognized platform for the work of the world's best visual artists, designers, technologists, and musicians.
Associate Director for IT and Production Eli Neiburger says the tunes come without an encryption or DRM so then can be put on any device. Neiburger adds that people with a library card can download the music without any special software.
Library cards are free for anyone living in the Ann Arbor Public Schools District and can be purchased by people in other communities by visiting an Ann Arbor library.
