With over 150 city employees becoming eligible for retirement during the next year, the city of Ann Arbor is considering creating a workforce planning fund.
Officials want to make sure they have trained back-up personnel ready to replace retirees.
Among them is council member SabraBriere from the first ward.
"We run a very lean organization. And, so, we have a number of roles that people fill where they're the only person doing that work. And that was great until our workforce got older."
$1 million is being requested by the human resources department for the workforce program. The funds would come out of the general budget. Council will continue discussing the program in April.
