Ann Arbor Public Schools Board Passes Budget

Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor Public Schools has an approved 2014-2015 budget.  It took extending the regular session until after midnight, but the board has voted to approve the funding proposal.

After hours of discussion and a motion to extend the meeting to 12:15AM, Simone Lightfoot suggested an amendment that would provide alternatives to the privatization of the district’s custodial services.  According to Mlive.com, that was voted down in a 5-2 decision, and, almost immediately, the budget vote was held.

The $182 million fund which includes wage concessions from the Ann Arbor Education Association, employee layoffs and other cuts passed with only Susan Baskett dissenting.  Deb Mexicotte adjourned the regular session at 12:30AM.
