Ann Arbor Public Schools could gain more than just Whitmore Lake's approximately 1,000 students if annexation plans move forward. That's because Whitmore Lake Public Schools currently accepts schools of choice students from Livingston County.
They would become eligible to attend school in Ann Arbor if the district's boundaries expand. School Board President Deb Mexicotte says so far annexation discussions have been very positive. She says they want to develop a real partnership that will benefit both communities.
Mexicotte says a joint committee of board members and administrators from both district still has a lot of questions to answer. Issues include taxation, governance, and state support.
