This week, "Art and Soul" is the art of well-being.  89.1 WEMU'S Lisa Barry is joined by University of Michigan Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. Frank Anderson, who is also the director of Global Initiatives for the department and co-founder of Ann Arbor Open Meditation.  Dr. Anderson talks about why he co-founded the meditation center and the many benefits of meditation.

Dr. Anderson says he and Dr. Libby Robinson co-founded Ann Arbor Open Meditation to give people a place to learn and practice meditation outside of any belief system or cultural concept.  Once a week, there is drop-in meditation at the Lotus Center in Ann Arbor.

Dr. Anderson says meditation is an opportunity to find out who you really are at the deepest level.  Meditation allows to you be present and find out more about yourself by just being silent.

There are different techniques, but when you sit in meditation, be aware of the breath, and that can bring profound results.  Dr. Anderson says in that awareness there is peace, sense of joy, and relief from everyday concerns.
