Art & Soul - The Performing Arts: Scary Home Companion

Roustabout Theatre

Local arts writer and blogger Jenn McKee joins Lisa Barry for this week's "Art and Soul" to talk about the many different performing arts events happening now. They talk to "the two Joes," Joe Zettelmaier and Joey Albright, about the Roustabout Theatre Troupe and their upcoming production:

The troupe moves from theater to theater throughout Michigan, performing plays, radio shows, and other forms of entertainment.  Their upcoming production is “Dark Ride Radio Hour”and will be performed at the Bona Sera Cafe in Ypsilanti on October 14 and at the Trinity House in Livonia on October 21.  The show will be presented as if the audience is watching a live performance of a radio show, complete with sound effects.  Zettelmaier compares the Dark Ride Radio Hour to "Scary Home Companion."

In addition to their upcoming show, "the Joes" also talk about the story behind the Roustabout Troupe, the name of which comes from the word for a “circus worker who assembles and dismantles tents, cares for the grounds, and handles animals and equipment.”

Lisa and Jenn also talk about upcoming productions in the area, including “Sweeney Todd,” at the Encore Theatre in Dexter, beginning September 28 and running through October 22, and “God of Carnage,” at the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, beginning September 28 and running through December 16.
