Civic Matters: Ann Arbor's 'Treeline,' The Upcoming County-Wide Ballot Issue And More

Every Monday morning, the executive director of the CivCity Initiativejoins WEMU's David Fair for a conversation on topics pertinent to Washtenaw County and the city of Ann Arbor.  Mary Morgan will provide news, analysis, commentary and explain the various ways residents can become more engaged.

Mary Morgan brings a wealth of experience to the airwaves. While heading up the CivCity Initiative now, Mary was previously co-founder and publisher of the Ann Arbor Chronicle. Prior to that she served as a reporter and editor for the Ann Arbor News when it was a daily, print-edition newspaper.

Topics included in this week's discussion:

• This week, the Ann Arbor City Council will start the formal process of gathering feedback on the draft master plan for the Treeline. The 60-page document outlines a vision for the Allen Creek greenway.  You can download it from this link (it's a big file).
• The Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority (DDA) meets at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 6.  One agenda item: A resolution to build more floors on the Ann Ashley parking structure.  Also of interest is a farewell resolution for Al McWilliams, who is not seeking reappointment.  Click here for the agenda/board packet.

• Also on Wednesday, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners meets with a fairly full agenda. It includes a policy on how to spend revenues from the proposed public safety/mental health services tax, if approved by voters on Nov. 7.

• For anyone who couldn't make it to last week's forum on the 1,4 dioxane plume, a video of the session is available from the Washtenaw County Coalition for Action on the Remediation of Dioxane (CARD).  The group holds its regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

• And how can you tell summer's over?  The city of Ann Arbor opens Buhr Park pool for a dog swim!  It's happening on Thursday at 3 p.m.  Details here.
