A new pop up store in Ypsilanti is offering refurbished computers and opportunities for young people.
Digital Inclusion's temporary store is the latest effort from Eastern Michigan University's B-Side program.The goal is to close the digital divide by teaching at risk youth how to refurbish computers.
Director Jack Bidlack says the effort helps at risk students learn about the IT field. "It's really just opening their eyes up to the potential. For Eastern students you get to see, they get the opportunity to actually not just be the student, they actually get to be the teacher, which is awesome. They get to actually work and train these kids," Bidlack says.
The pop up store is offering Macs and PCs with discounts for low-income and disabled people.
Bidlack says after the pop-up store on Washington closes December 17th they will evaluate if a permanent store is sustainable.
