The 2017 Homeless Point-In-Time count, conducted by the Washtenaw County Continuum of Care, reveals there are still about 300 homeless people in the county.  It is an improvement over last year's figures, though.

Washtenaw County has seen a 12% decrease in the total number of people who were experiencing homelessness in our area.  Included in that is a 22% decline in the number of homeless veterans and more than a 50% drop in the number of chronically homeless individuals.

Amanda Carlisle is the executive director of the Washtenaw Housing Alliance.

"The majority of the decline is really that we're getting a lot of folks houses as quickly as possible with the limited resources that we have."

The Point-in-Time Count was conducted on January 26th.
