The city of Ann Arbor has a new council member representing the first ward after council member Sabra Briere resigned to move to California.

Jason Frenzel was appointed to the position by council early Tuesday morning.  He is the stewardship coordinator for the Huron River Watershed Council, as well as a member of the Ann Arbor Environmental Commission.

The new council member knows he will most likely be the deciding vote on theLibrary Lot issue.  That's the controversial plan that would sell the city owned land to a high-rise developer.

"Up until this week, I would have said, 'Certainly!' But I want to also do diligence. I know that I've had not had access to all the information about that project."

Frenzel will serve out the remainder of Briere's term which will be until next November.  He plans to run in next year's election to try to maintain his seat.
