New Community Center 'Lampshade' Opening Soon In Downtown Ypsilanti

There will be a little bit of everything  in the new community center opening soon in downtown Ypsilanti on Main Street.  Ricky Herbert, the creator of "Lampshade" says they plan to hold entertainment events as well as house a  coffee shop, book store and a revolving art display featuring the works of local artists.  It's a performance space -music venue with classes, events, talks, and panels expected to be held there.

Herbert describes it as a space for everyone who wants to come and share with one another.

"Lampshade" is decorated with art, antiques and many musical instruments with a stage near the front window.

Ricky Lampshade...as he calls himself says he wants to build a creative space in downtown Ypsilanti and give people a safe space to express themselves.

Ricky says hundreds of people have already stopped in to check out the new space and others have stopped in and offered to help.

He is hoping to have it open to the public in the next month or two.
