The A2 Energy Loan Fund is available for one to four unit rental housing properties.

Ann Arbor Sustainability Associate Jamie Kidwell Brix says 30 percent of the city's rental housing is older converted single family residences that can use upgrades. "Air, ceiling, insulation, upgrades to heating and cooling, anything that really improves the energy efficiency of a rental housing unit," Kidwell Brix says.

Estimates show about $50 million in energy costs are spent on rentals in the county's urban core, so a 10 percent improvement would save $5 million.

Details on the program can be found here.
