Pay Scale Approved For Ypsilanti Community Schools Teachers, Principals

Bob Eccles

The unified Ypsilanti-Willow Run school board has approved a performance-based compensation system for Ypsilanti Community Schools teachers and principals.

Brian Marcel is Assistant Superintendent for Administrative and Support Services with the Washtenaw Intermediate School District.  He says base pay for teachers will be $40,000 a year, with pay topping out at $70,000 a year for the most experienced “master” level teachers.  Teachers can also earn bonuses for doing things like filling hard-to-staff positions and having an advanced degree related to the subject they’re teaching.

Principals will earn between $85,000 and $99,000, which Marcel says is mid-range compared to principals in area districts.

Current Ypsilanti and Willow Run teachers who’ve applied with Ypsilanti Community Schools will find out whether they’re being hired on May 3rd.
