Protecting Private Property Gas And Oil Exploration In Washtenaw County

WEMU explores what can be done to protect private property from gas and oil exploration here in Washtenaw County. The discussion has been spurred by recent actions of a Traverse City oil company attempting to lease area properties, an effort to further explore gas and oil mining operations in Washtenaw County.

Lisa Wozniak, Executive Producer of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters sits down to talk with our guest, State Representative Gretchen Driskell (D - Saline) on West Bay Exploration's recent efforts to obtain oil exploration and mineral rights leases in Scio Township.

Many Washtenaw County residents have raised concerns around traffic, property values, environmental impacts, changes to the water table, and other issues from proposed operations. Local officials held an informational meeting at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District facility on Wagner with a variety of experts because West Bay Exploration has leases to explore about one-thousand acres in the township.
