Protests were held across the country Thursday evening after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned per President Donald Trump's request. About 1,000 people gathered at the Federal Building in downtown Ann Arbor as part of the nationwide movement hosted by the Move On network. 89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan was there and has the story.
“He lies, he cheats, Donald Trump must be impeached...”
Holding large signs that read "Protect Mueller," the large crowd demanded a fair investigation to determine if Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election. Trump appointed Matthew Whitaker to serve as acting U.S. Attorney General. But protest organizer Jessica Prozinski says it’s a conflict of interest because Whitaker has shown hostility toward Special Counsel Robert Mueller who is working on the investigation.
“And that any permanent replacement for attorney general be non-partisan because this is a really dangerous moment for our democracy. This is really Trump trying to put himself above the law,” said Prozinski.
After a few short speeches, the group marched through the University of Michigan and returned to the Federal Building in downtown Ann Arbor.
