Soapbox Summer - Barb Fuller

Barb Fuller

Barb Fuller is running for the office of State Representative out of Michigan's 52nd District.  This is her submission to WEMU's Soapbox Summer series.

My name is Barb Fuller. I am running for state representative in Washtenaw County’s 52nd district. I ask you to vote for me on August 2nd in the Democratic Primary Election.

I am running for state representative because I have the right priorities and the proven ability to connect people to get things done.

I am running to do more to support a world class public education for all of our children and fair compensation for our educators. I am running to do more to fix our roads, upgrade our water and sanitary systems and bring affordable high speed broadband service to everyone.

I will pursue the clean-up of the 1-4 Dioxane groundwater contamination in Scio Township. I will advocate for programs that prepare workers for 21st century jobs and I will stand firm on making sure that women and families in Michigan have access to the health care that they need and deserve. I will speak up to restore local control over issues such as the siting of gravel mines, oil wells and landfills.

I have lived in Manchester for over thirty years, where my husband and I raised our two now adult children. I identify with the unique character of western Washtenaw County, and with the people who live here. I will be an authentic voice with an approach shaped by decades of experience and backed by the respect and trust of my constituents.

Over 250 individuals and organizations have endorsed my candidacy. Among them are former state senators Lana Pollack and Alma Smith along with former 52nd district state representatives Mary Schroer, Pam Byrnes and John Hansen. In addition, numerous county, township and city officials, teachers, environmental activists, nurses, doctors, dental hygienists, law enforcement officers, community leaders and business owners have endorsed my candidacy. They all agree that I am the best person to serve as the next voice for western Washtenaw County in the state house.

Currently, I am Vice-Chair of the Washtenaw County Board of Road Commissioners, a Washtenaw County Park Commissioner and a board member of the Michigan Broadband Cooperative.

I have been an active Democrat for more than 30 years because Democrats put people first and speak for those whose voices are too often drowned out by the special interests. Democrats stand up for working men and women and their right to earn a wage that provides a quality of life worth living. Democrats work to level the playing field of power, demand accountability, fight to ensure that everyone pays their fair share and we take care to protect our most vulnerable citizens.

To sum it all up, a wide variety of over 250 individuals and organizations agree that I am the best person to serve as the next state representative for the 52nd district.

I have the right priorities. I am experienced. I am respected. And I am trusted. I have proven my ability to connect people to get things done. My years working as an organizational leader, legislative aide, deputy township supervisor and road commissioner have prepared me to get to work for my constituents from day 1.

On August 2nd, in the Democratic Primary Election - I ask you to vote for me, Barb Fuller, for 52nd district State Representative.
