Lisa Cardenas is running to be elected to the Michigan House of Representatives as the Representative from the 54th District. This is her submission for WEMU's "Soapbox Summer."
Hi, my name is Lisa Cardenas. As you may know, I am running as a democrat for State Representative. Throughout my career, I have worked in big business, as a small business owner, and have served on many commerce and development boards. As a former city commissioner, I understand what needs to be done in order to maintain business and infrastructure in our district. If elected, I will focus on the revitalization of our downtowns, filling empty storefronts and making the community even more lively. I will also fight in Lansing to increase funding for public education, and create policies which establish and guarantee affordable housing options, maintainable with living wages. By pursuing these changes, we can help to improve our community and communities across the state. At the end of the day, I have a passion to serve and want to help people. I am unlike other politicians; I will tell you the truth when I don’t have all of the answers. But one thing is true, I will work tirelessly to learn and to serve the people of the 54th district and the state of Michigan. Thank you for your time, and remember to vote Cardenas on August 2nd.
