The need to consider a voluntary water use restriction in the City of Ann Arbor has passed.
Crews were able to successfully install line stops to isolate a break in one of the pipes that supplies water from the Barton Dam to the city's water treatment plant. The city was considering shutting down the plant to move forward with the repairs.
City Council member Chuck Warpehoskifrom the fifth ward says council will wait to get data on the aging infrastructure before making decisions on long-term improvements.
“It's going to be based on how do we first provide safe and reliable water for rate payers in the city? And second, how do we manage the costs to our rate payer? And then third, what are the other environmental concerns we want to have in mind as we provide that service?” asks Warpehoski.
Warpehoski added that the damaged pipe is over 70 years old.
