Washtenaw County Gauging Affordable Housing Need

Washtenaw County wants to get a better idea of how great the need is locally for affordable housing, and has launched an online needs assessment to help make that determination.

Paul Montagno is the Sustainable Communities Coordinator for Washtenaw County's Office of Community and Economic Development.

He says this survey will be very helpful in providing policy direction.

"From supply of market-rate housing to middle-class folks, to market-rate or subsidized workforce housing, all the way to the people who have the greatest need who may, in addition to having affordable housing issues need other wrap-around services," Montagno says.  "If we want our communities to be sustainable, we have to have housing opportunities and choices for all income levels."

Montagno says Washtenaw County faces a wide range of needs associated with affordable housing, and this assessment is the first step in addressing those needs.
