The Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development is currently offering mini grants of up to $10,000 to non-profit groups.
To qualify, you have to increase trade in the county, advertise local products, and attract tourists to the area.
Washtenaw County economic officer Tony VanDerworp says, in the past, a downtown retail assessment was conducted in Chelsea, Dexter and Manchester. VanDerworp added that the county is becoming a bit more recession proof by relying less on large corporations and outside companies for jobs.
