Eastern Michigan University will soon sign a $115 million, 50-year contract to privatize management of its utilities. Houston, Texas-based CenTrio Energy will then be in charge of electric and water utilities and heating and cooling systems. The decision to move forward comes despite some concerns and objections raised by members of the EMU community. EMU vice president of communications, Walter Kraft, joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss the deal in further detail.

A 119-acre family farm in Webster Township will be preserved for years to come. This is part of the township’s taxpayer-funded Farmland and Open Space program. WEMU's Josh Hakala reports.

Did you know there are less than two dozen Black farmers in Washtenaw County? It is another example of inequity, often caused by lack of access. The Legacy Land Conservancy is working to increase access and address issues of agricultural equity, while continuing its work to increase land preservation throughout the region.
