History gives us the opportunity to better understand the past and predict the future.  A missing piece of Washtenaw County history, dating back to 1898, was recently discovered sparking a community effort to share the local piece of history with area residents.

89.1 WEMU’s Lisa Barry follows the path to the past and the future of dozens of historic beams from inside an old log cabin in Ann Arbor that, until recently, were…hidden in plain sight.

There are many ways to relax and unwind, and certainly nature is known as being a good source for that.  One of the more unusual ways is with guided forest therapy.

89.1 WEMU’s Lisa Barry takes you into the woods with the area’s only certified forest therapy guide...hidden in plain sight.

Centuries-old trees have many benefits:  they provide habitat, absorb stormwater runoff, sequester carbon, and beautify the rural landscape.  Many of our largest got their start when buggies or farm tractors were the fastest thing on the road.  Now, in the age of speedy (and often distracted) driving, trees close to the road are being hit by drivers that lose control.  Should they be removed for safety's sake?  In the last few months, there has been much talk about this question in Washtenaw County.  The controversy continues.

Pittsfield Township was thinking about banning charcoal grills from apartment porches and decks before a July 4th fire that damaged several units of an apartment building, but now propane-fired grills may also be a no-no.

Public Safety Director Matt Harshberger says that pending township approval, language will be added to the open burn ordinance prohibiting charcoal grills or grills fired by an open flame from use in multi-family housing.

The issue may come up for a vote at the township board's meeting in August.
