The Japanese Section of the Department of World Languages cordially invites you to the Japanese Storytelling on April 19 (Fri.) (1:00-3:00 pm) at the Alexander Recital Hall. The performer, San'yūtei Ponta is the seventh disciple of San'yūtei Koraku in Japan. The first Ponta was a disciple of the master San'yūtei Encho, and for the first time in over 100 years. He revived his name and took the name of his second generation Ponta. In honor of that name, he currently only writes humorous stories as a budding rakugo storyteller. He has written many human stories and ghost stories written by Encho. Admission is free. Open to the public. English translation will be provided on projected slides. This event qualifies for General Education LBC Group 3 credit.
Join us for a free Happy Hour concert!Citizen Jones is a blues duo featuring Daniel Jones (guitar/vocals) and Tim Douthit (harmonica). Their primary focus is to produce, perform, and record original blues music. They started this collaboration in New York over 30 years ago, and have been playing music ever since - various states, various venues, always the blues.
Hailing from the Ann Arbor area, the Pontiac Trail Blazers have been the house bluegrass band for Detroit Street Filling Station since 2017. They are often joined by a bevy of special guests and focus on the beautiful harmonies and acoustic prowess that are unique to their Bluegrass roots. With a deep repertoire of traditional standards, originals, and unique covers, the Trail Blazers will keep you guessing with unexpected tunes and arrangements every week. Joining them this week is Madcat Ruth on harmonica & ukulele.

This rarely heard cultural treasure is presented in collaboration with Wayne State University Department of Music and features soaring choral music, big band sounds and the energy of tap dance.
The concert program will be conducted by Brandon Waddles, Rackham's Artistic Director and Assistant Professor in Teaching, Choral Conducting and Music Education at Wayne State University. In addition to Rackham Choir, the performance features the Wayne State University Big Band and University Choirs and the “Too Hot Trio” of Marion Hayden, bass, Dave Taylor, percussion, and Alvin Waddles, piano.
The Kittens & Crooners series -- presented by Foguth Financial Group -- features intimate shows with a speakeasy vibe in the lower level of Ciao Amici's, and April 20 highlights the return of Ben Sharkey.There will be two shows, and doors will open 30 minutes prior to each show.
