You know fall is well under way when WEMU’s free 5:01 Jazz shows start back up. We are honored to kick off the series with the Andy Adamson Quartet on Friday, October 7th at Rush Street Nightclub, in Ann Arbor.
An Ann Arbor native, Andy Adamson is a veteran of many outstanding regional bands: Dick Siegel’s Ministers of Melody, Norma Jean Bell and The All Stars and F.U.B.A.R. Andy can play it all, but jazz is his first love.
Andy loves many of the same jazz artists enjoyed by WEMU listeners: John Coltrane, The Mahavishnu Orchestra and Chick Corea. He brings these influences to bear in his music as you will hear in his recent CD A Cry For Peace. But, Andy is a totally original musician with unique chords and rhythms weaving through his songs. His ideas flow in a stream of consciousness and passion. His fellow musicians easily go with the flow: saxophonist Dan Bennett, bassist Brennan Andes and drummer Jonathan Taylor.
5:01 Jazz is presented by WEMU on the first Friday (usually) of the month from October through May. Each free show starts at 5:01PM sharp at Rush Street Nightclub, 314 South Main Street in Ann Arbor. Join your friends for an easy after-work party, drinks from Rush Street and great local jazz! 5:01 Jazz is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Jan Winkelman, jazz trumpeter and WEMU’s first major donor and Community Champion. See you Friday, October 7th at 5:01PM sharp!
