Debbie Dingell is going to Washington, where she'll take her husband, John's 12 Congressional District seat.

Dingell defeated Republican Terry Bowman in Tuesday's election.

Speaking live Tuesday night on WEMU, Dingell said her priorities will be Michigan's priorities.

"Manufacturing, diversifying our economy, supporting the auto industry by bringing other new jobs here," Dingell said.  "Ensuring that every single child has access to quality, affordable education, from the time they're born through higher education.  And if you become sick, you don't have think about whether you can afford go to the doctor."

Dingell said she knows she has a lot to learn as a first-term Representative, but she learned from one of the giants.

She said she knows how big her husband's shoes are, and she knows she can't fill them.  But she looks forward to building the kind of relationships that will help break the partisan gridlock voters are fed up with.
