City of Ann Arbor

Plans to redevelop an affordable housing building in Ann Arbor for more than $6.5 million have received the green light by the Ann Arbor city council.

The Ann Arbor Housing Commission will demolish a low-income apartment building at 701 Henry Street to rebuild a new one.

Council member Chuck Warpehoski from the 5th ward told WEMU the old structure would cost too much to repair, plus its in desperate need of weatherization.

The new building will consist of 32 apartments, up 4 more than the current units. Construction is expected to start next year.
