It's official, it's now illegal to feed deer in Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor city council voted in favor of the ban to prevent deer from damaging residential gardens and landscaping.
Offenders will first get a written warning and then will be fined $100 for every day they break the law.
First Ward Ann Arbor City Council member, Sabra Briere said the ordinance will be complaint driven. Someone will have to contact the city directly to file a complaint that the neighbor or other resident is feeding the deer.
Anyone who has feed less than five feet from the ground could be fined. That excludes dog and cat food. The ordinance is also not intended to affect residents who use bird feeders.
