Ann Arbor Folk Festival Preview

36th Ann Arbor Folk Festival

January 25 through 26, 2013

6:30pm at Hill Auditorium

The 36th Annual Ann Arbor Folk Fest is coming up fast on January 25th and 26th.  This two-night fundraiser for The Ark offers some of the best musicians in the folk and roots music circuits today. Despite taking place in UofM's Hill Auditorium, the atmosphere of friendly sharing is the same as at The Ark's more intimate space.

The Folk Fest isn't just a chance to see artists you've listened to and loved for years, like say, Lucinda Williams. It's also a chance to see new artists that could easily be added to your list of favorites. Maybe it's Friday night's Delta Rae, with their mix of voices and percussive impulse. Or maybe you haven't seen Dar Williams on the Ark's stage, where her songs tell gorgeous stories.

City and Colour is headlining Friday night, and on Saturday night The Head and the Heart finishes the night. Dallas Green, the frontman for City and Colour, has been offering up gorgeously melancholy tunes since 2005. Equally gorgeous are the tunes from The Head and the Heart, full of joyful harmonies, piano, and percussion.

The Ark is a non-profit landmark for great acoustic music not just in Ann Arbor, but around the nation.  The Folk Fest showcases some of these musicians—so keep an eye on The Ark's schedule for months to come. One of those artists playing in Hill Auditorium for the Fest could very well be coming back to play their own show on The Ark's stage.
