The City of Ann Arbor continues to move forward with its “A2 Zero Carbon Neutrality Plan,” despite facing some challenges due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Missy Stults is the sustainability and innovations manager for the city and says public engagement has been difficult because of social distancing. The program’s neighborhood and youth ambassador initiatives have been put on hold for now. But Stults says the pandemic is providing them with vital information.
"This is exactly the time when we should be laying bare all of our abilities of our system. We’re seeing the injustices, the inequalities, in terms of who is impacted and how they're impacted by COVID-19. And those are the exact same inequalities that manifest inside of them."
The city hopes to obtain community wide carbon neutrality by the year 2030. Stults will present an update to city council tonight.
