Shortly after rideshare services Uber and Lyft came to Ann Arbor the city sent the companies cease and desist letters. Now a proposal to amend the city's taxi cab ordinance is being considered to but some teeth behind the letters.
It would require all drivers for hire be licensed with the city. Council member Stephen Kunselman says Uber and Lyft drivers would need something to signify they are registered. He says this could end up being a hang tag, some type of decal, or a flag like many fans put on their car in route to games.
Kunselman says the change is needed because police can't pull over Uber and Lyft cars without some other primary offense. He says it could be fall before the proposal comes to city council.
