The Ann Arbor Police Department Plans To Continue Using Body Cameras

City of Ann Arbor

The Ann Arbor Police Departmentcontinues to use body cameras as part of a pilot program.

It's been just over a year since the body cameras have been used by twenty officers.  Police Chief Jim Baird says they've experienced hardware problems, but the issues are being addressed by the manufacturer.

The department likes using the cameras to bring even more transparency to what they do on a daily basis.  The chief added that most of the time when a citizen files a complaint and a body camera was in use, it usually exonerates police officers.

The department is using the same equipment vendor that provides them service for their police car cameras.
