Anne Brown Joins Ypsilanti City Council

Ypsilanti City Council is back to full strength.

Anne Brown serves as the District Manager for State Representative David Rutledge, and now will also represent Ypsilanti's second ward on council. The seat's been vacant since Susan Moeller stepped down in October to care for elderly relatives.

On council, Brown hopes to help improve communication. "In terms of what residents hear and what they want to convey to council members, and what council members need to in turn convey to citizens. I think there's kind of been a breakdown in that," Brown says.

Brown has served three terms on the city's Parks and Recreation Commission. She hopes to continue efforts to attract visitors to Ypsilanti through parks. Brown planned on running for a seat on council in the future, but Moeller's resignation sped up her timeline.

Community activist Beth Bashert and former teacher Gail Wolkoff also applied for the seat.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
