Art comes in many forms. Some hangs on museum walls to be viewed for centuries. Some is duplicated or turned into posters…and some is sold at auction to collectors. Then there’s a local artist who creates “unique public art” NOT intended to last long.
We visited with David Zinn recently as he created one of those amazing pieces of art-with chalk!
On a brisk mid November day, local chalk artist David Zinn began to set up his tools near a faded flag pole on the Eastern Michigan University campus and started envisioning what he might create.
David Zinn’s chalk art isn’t just a “scribble” as he sometimes describes it…but a well thought out creation that typically looks 3-D.
David Zinn sees art in places others might just see a dusty sidewalk or a well beaten path.
But when it comes to the term “artist” he sees things differently as well.
Most of Zinn’s work disappears in a day or two and he’s ok with that. In fact, He says he creates chalk art to provide a special and unique experience which boils down to one word….PERSPECTIVE!
As "temporary" as his art is meant to be David Zinn has created something a bit more permanent. He has just released a new book and a calendar.
