ABOUT THE FIFTH AVENUE PRESS BOOK RECEPTION

Fifth Avenue Press, the Library's own publishing imprint, is releasing its latest group of books at an event on Sunday, November 10 from 1-3pm downtown. 

This is the fourth group of books released by Fifth Avenue Press, which launched back in 2017.  Including the upcoming releases, Fifth Avenue Press has helped launch 28 books—everything from novels to memoirs, picture books, mysteries, and books for teens.

The nine books being released in November include four releases for adults, four for children, and one for teens.

For adults:

The Elements: a love letter to all things everywhere:  An artist's exploration of the periodic table of elements and our inseparability with everything by author and artist Hannah Burr.

"All That We Encounter" by Bethany Grey

"Breaking Through" by Johnny Thompson

Breaking Through: A novel about Sam, a twenty-eight year old teacher, who navigates changing friendships and her own out-of-control love life as forgotten pieces of her past begin to resurface.  By Johnny Thompson.

Shape Notes: Expressing both the harmonious and dissonant parts of life, Shape Notes is organized around four shapes and four themes: social justice, places, family and community. The poems attempt to create connections and discover how our connections can bring joy.  By Judy Patterson Wenzel.

Over In Motown: An energetic picture book celebrating the musical genres and rhythms of industry that fueled Detroit in the Motown era.  By author Debbie Taylor with illustrations by Keisha Morris.

The Planet We Live On: A picture book told in a lively House That Jack Built style, discover the connections among plants, animals and the resources they need to survive. How do people fit into earth's web of life?  By Shanda Trent 

Anyone in Washtenaw County can submit a completed manuscript that the Fifth Avenue Press team reviews to see if the project is something the Library can help with.  Fifth Avenue Press provides editing, proofreading, formatting and layout, fact checking, illustrating, cover design, etc., and authors retain all rights to their book once finished.  the Library only asks for a digital license to the work in perpetuity for the Library collection, so patrons can access Fifth Avenue Press books.

ABOUT EMERGING WRITERS

The AADL also hosts writing workshops and meet-ups called Emerging Writers.  Here, published and prospective authors meet to discuss specific topics related to writing, or gather in a casual and supportive environment to share and read work.
