Byrnes Gets Early Start In Bid To Win 7th Congressional District Seat

The election isn't until November of 2014, but Pam Byrnes is working to make in-roads with the 7th Congressional District constituency now.  The former Democratic State Representative is seeking to unseat incumbent Republican Tim Walberg.

As WEMU's Bob Eccles reports, Byrnes yesterday wrapped up a three-day tour of the seven counties that comprise the 7th district.

Former State Representative Pam Byrnes has wrapped up a three-day tour of the seventh Congressional district - a district she'd like to represent in Washington.  Byrnes says residents greeted her with a lot of enthusiasm and support. Byrnes says she informally polled folks during her tour on the possibility of military strikes on Syria, and she says people were divided on the issue.  Byrnes is the Democratic party's challenger to incumbent Republican Tim Walberg.

Byrnes was recently chosen by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to be part of its "Jumpstart" program, which targets top recruits in hotly contested races.  Byrnes says party leaders are excited about her candidacy. As part of the "Jumpstart" program, the former State Representative will get early help from the party in the areas of funding, communications, strategy and operations.
