A local election is just weeks away now, so it's time to be informed. In this week's "Civic Matters," WEMU's Patrick Campion talks to CivCity Initiative executive director Mary Morgan about the latest developments in local government, including the latest news about the upcoming races in and around Ann Arbor.
Mary Morgan brings a wealth of experience to the airwaves. While heading up the CivCity Initiative now, Mary was previously co-founder and publisher of the Ann Arbor Chronicle. Prior to that, she served as a reporter and editor for the Ann Arbor News when it was a daily, print-edition newspaper.

• It's worth another reminder that Monday, April 9 is the deadline to register to vote in the May 8 election. Voters in the Ann Arbor Public Schools district will be weighing in on a renewal of the district's operating millage.
• Related to elections later this year: On Thursday, April 12 the first candidate forum for Ann Arbor mayor and city council will be held at the UM Ford School from 4-5:30 p.m. It's part of a class taught by former mayor John Hieftje. Click here for details. Note: The filing deadline to run in the August primary is April 24.
• The Ann Arbor City Council holds a working session and a special meeting on Monday, April 9. The special meeting, which starts at 9 p.m., is for a closed session related to pending litigation, and likely will address a lawsuit filed by developer Dennis Dahlmann over the former Y lot across from the downtown library. Council is expected to reconsider a resolution to buy back the property – a resolution that failed to pass at its last meeting.
• Another sign of spring: Volunteer training for Ann Arbor's Breeding Bird Survey. The session is on Thursday, April 12 from 7-9 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Natural Area Preservation office, 3875 E. Huron River Dr. Register by Monday, April 9. Click here for details.

• If you're interested in seeing into the future, check out the Mcity Driverless Shuttle project on the University of Michigan’s North Campus. It's still in the testing phase and will be taking passengers this spring.
