Council Delays non-profit Housing Development

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor's city council has postponed approval of an area plan and re-zoning along Dhu Varren Road for the proposed Somerset Estates development.
The non-profit Ann Arbor Student Building Industry Program wants to build 11 homes on the site, which is currently zoned for only eight houses. Residents of the nearby Foxfire subdivision are also objecting, saying the new homes won't fit in with theirs, and the 11 years planned for construction is just too long.
Student Building board member Harvey Burrman says the objections are unfounded, but his group will not proceed without the needed zoning change.
