COVID-19 Cases Double In Washtenaw County

Washtenaw County Health Department

There are now 14 known cases of coronavirus in Washtenaw County.

Health officials reported seven more presumptive positive cases Thursday.

All of them are adults, and five of them are people who had not traveled recently or been in contact with another known case.

Washtenaw Health spokesperson Susan Cerniglia says it’s likely there are more cases that they have not yet been identified in the community and that the collective goal at this point is to slow down the spread of the disease.

“We did not think after a certain point that we were going to prevent additional cases, but we do want to keep working closely together to slow them down, so that our health care systems, our food systems, our groceries, all of that we have the ability to keep up with need,” Cerniglia says.

Cerniglia says thoroughly washing your hands, staying home if you are sick, and staying at least 6 feet away from other people are still the most effective methods to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
