EMU Needs More Time To Respond To A Freedom Of Information Act Request Appeal About "Fish Lake"

Jay Sinclair

Eastern Michigan University has extended its appeal response time to a Freedom of Information Actrequest regarding the potential sale of its Kresge Environmental Center.

Eastern now has an additional ten days to respond to the appeal.  Alumnus Jay Sinclair hired an attorney after EMU partially granted the FOIA request and only gave him three documents.   Sinclair wants more transparency for the center that's known as Fish Lake in Lapeer.  It's used by students and faculty for research.

"We certainly have the option of going to court. I already have an attorney and that's something we've talked about. So we can appeal that in court."

EMU spokesperson GeoffLarcom says they need the extension because they just named a new university president and he needs time to look at the appeal.
