EMU Receives $3.26 Million Gift From William And Delores Brehm

William and Delores Brehm seek to help train special education professionals and researchers who will lead the way in supporting people with disabilities, as well as those who can benefit from music therapy.

Eastern Michigan University has recieved a $3.26 million donation to it special education and music therapy programs. The gift comes long-time supporters William and Delores Brehm. The two have donated a total of $8.5 million to EMU over the years, and are now the largest individual donors in the school's history. 

 
Geoff Larcom, EMU's Executive Director of Media Relations says the university is extremely grateful. Larcom says the additional funding will be used to strengthen those programs and provide scholarships to outstanding students and the patients they will care for.

According to a press release from the university, the new donations will accomplish the following:

  • Expand the Delores Soderquist Brehm Center for Special Education Scholarship & Research by increasing the annual program of one-year full-tuition scholarships and student-faculty research partnerships from eight to ten Brehm Scholars.
  • Establish the Delores Soderquist Brehm Endowed Research Fellowship in Special Education program, which will support two fellowships annually for Brehm Scholars and afford them the opportunity for further advancement of Special Education research and best practices.
  • Establish the Delores Soderquist Brehm Endowed Fellowship in Music Therapy, which will support two fellowships annually for outstanding Music Therapy students during their senior year of clinical work and internship.
