Eastern Michigan University sent out an e-mail Wednesday to students and employees reminding them that the use of marijuana on campus is still prohibited.  The message was sent after voters in Michigan approved Proposal 1 that legalizes the recreational use of marijuana.

Geoff Larcom is a spokesperson for Eastern.

"It's important for people to know that the university policy in place prohibiting marijuana on campus will not change.  And that's because as an institution of higher education receiving federal funds, we have obligations under federal law mandating our commitment to a drug-free campus," said Larcom.

Employees and students who violate this policy are subject to disciplinary proceedings that could include termination or expulsion.
