Eastern Michigan University's Board of Regents met Friday afternoon and gave the green light to move forward with a $16 million renovation project for its REC-IM building

Priorities include enhancing entrances, making improvements to its fitness center and even adding a gaming simulator area.

EMU President James Smith says the project will be funded through a student rec fee that was implemented last year, at the request of Student Government.

"We'll bond dollars from those fees to pay it back.  But yes, it comes directly from those fees," said Smith.

Renovations will start in January and are expected to be completed in August of 2020.
