Ann Arbor Police just wrapped up a special 5-month enforcement of pedestrian crosswalk safety in the city.
Four separate pedestrian crosswalk enforcements by Ann Arbor Policebegan last June with a two-week warning period and finished with the final special patrol last week.
Ann Arbor Police Sergeant Bill Clock shares the final numbers from the pedestrian crosswalk safety crackdown.
“Grand total for stops: we did stop 2311 cars, and we issued 706 tickets,” says Clock.
Each ticket came with a $140 fine.
He says the special enforcement was intended to increase compliance with the city ordinance involving yielding to pedestrians in crosswalks. Sgt. Clock says there were some challenges to the tickets but says they were upheld in court for the most part.
He says police will continue to work with Ann Arbor schools to make it safer for pedestrians and drivers in those areas as well.
