For 60-years, Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger has been serving up a unique menu of comfort foods at its location at the corner of Packard and Division in Ann Arbor.
No more. Wednesday marked the last day for the restaurant at that location, and those wishing to have one last experience waited on line upwards of an hour.
WEMU's Andrew Cluley spent some time talking with those patient Blimpy enthusiasts.
The lines were long all week as fans of Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger stopped in for one last order before the restaurant closes. After 60 years serving burgers at the corner of Packard and Division in Ann Arbor, the restaurant is shutting the doors on this location, because the property was purchased by the University of Michigan. A new location for the Ann Arbor mainstay is expected, but a new site has not yet been announced.
Bruce Worden and his son Harrison waited an hour for their last Blimpy Burgers today. Bruce was waiting for a triple, with hard salami. Harrison wanted a double with banana peppers. Bruce says, wherever the new Blimpy restaurant opens, he knows the food will still be great, but it just won't feel the same.
Natalie Mason of Ann Arbor says she was also willing to wait an hour for one last Blimpy Burger at Packard and Division. Mason grew up in Ann Arbor and says she has fond memories of sharing the Blimpy experience with her father. Mason's dad has passed away, but she says if he were alive, they would most certainly have shared the last day together at Krazy Jim's.
