More Than 30 Teams Compete In Ypsi 24 Hour Film Shootout

Over 30 teams of filmmakers competed in the 2014 Ypsi 24 Hour Film Shootout Friday night through Saturday night.  I tagged along with one of the film crews whose night began at Cafe Ollie in Depot Town.

*Listen to the audio.
This was Abbott Daimler of Ypsilanti's first time competing.

"I've been doing film as a hobby, and a little bit part-time work for a while," Daimler says, "and I watched some of the videos from last year and it was pretty exciting, so I thought I'd get involved this year."

Daimler describes his film as a love story during the graveyard shift.

"It's got some mythological characters in it, it's got a little corporate culture in it, a little bit of cynicism at the end, but it's light-hearted.," he says.  "Yeah, it'll be fun."

Each of the movies in the contest was required to include three elements:  A bridge over water, a hair dryer as a prop, and the line, "Honey, you have no idea what you're getting into."

When Bob left Daimler and his team, they had about 21 hours left to finish shooting and editing their film and submit it for consideration for a $1,000 top prize and an "IPSY":  a hand-crafted wooden scale model of the Ypsilanti water tower.

The movies will be screened and winners of the Ypsi 24 Hour Film Shootout announced October 3rd at Washtenaw Community College's Towsley Auditorium.
