More Street Closures Could Take Place In Ann Arbor To Create Additional Outdoor Space For Businesses

City of Ann Arbor

The City of Ann Arbor may close more streets in the downtown area to allow businesses to expand their operations outdoors during the pandemic for social distancing.

State and Main streets are the current focus of the closures, but city councilapproved a plan that also includes South University and the Kerrytown area.  The additional closures will take place if businesses in those areas request it.  Maura Thomson is the communications manager for the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority and says the outdoor social distancing plan is helping improve the local economy.

Maura Thomson: And also to allow waitstaff and kitchen-help to have a paycheck.

The street closures are taking place every Friday from 2 pm through Sunday at 8 pm.  The plan will be in effect until August 23rd and so far, about 40 businesses are participating.
